Two criminal investigations are progressing with one arrest made and perhaps as many as seven others pending, according to investigating officers and County Attorney Dawn Letcher.

An investigation into the theft of items from vehicles parked along Kennedy Heights on Aug. 5, and the June thefts of catalytic converters and other items from D&A Exhaust & Fast Lube, have led to the issuance of arrest warrants which are in the process of being served as the Mercury goes to press.

“This was solid investigative work and a good cohesive effort between officers with the Carlisle Police Department and the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office,” Letcher said.

Carlisle Police Officer Sgt. Darrell Layne is leading the investigation into the Kennedy Heights thefts and is being assisted by Nicholas County Deputy Sheriff Bennie Buckler.

“Officer Buckler was a great assistance, especially on the night of the Kennedy Heights thefts,” Layne said.

Erica Dawn Dale, 27, of Ewing has been arrested in connection with those thefts and charged with five counts of complicity to commit theft by unlawful taking and complicity to commit receipt of stolen credit card.

Investigators say additional arrests are pending and warrants will be served within the next 48 hours in connection with those crimes.

According to Layne, and court documents, several vehicles had items removed from the Kennedy Heights neighborhood, including Catherine and Oriole streets during the evening hours of Aug. 5.

‘Everything from purses, to cash to radar detectors, were removed,” he said. “I estimate the total at about $3,000 right now. We’ve recovered approximately 80 percent of the stolen items.”

Layne said he also received assistance from Nicholas County Jailer Jeff Sidles, who assisted him with gathering information and conducting interviews with inmates at the Montgomery County Jail.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Officer William Allen Earlywine also assisted with portions of various interviews conducted in relation to the investigation, according to Layne.

Buckler and Carlisle Police Offices Michael Kiskaden and Mark Snedegar are also working together on the D&A thefts.

According to Officer Kiskaden and Deputy Buckler, there are four suspects believed to have been involved with the theft of the catalytic converters.

“The warrants have been issued and arrests are pending,” Kiskaden and Buckler said.
